Aleš Butala graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana in 2005 and passed Bar exam in 2011.
From 2017 onwards Aleš Butala works with the Slovenian Securities Market Agency in Secondary markets division. Aleš Butala’s current work responsibilities cover Market in financial instruments Act, market abuse cases, packed retail investment products, benchmarks and new technologies (crypto assets).
From 2006 until 2017 he worked with the Ministry of finance, where he inter alia acted as the Head of financial system department, Head of capital markets division and Head of banking and insurance division. During his years at the ministry Aleš Butala was responsible for the preparation of legal acts that establish Slovenian legal framework for financial services. Furthermore, during his years at the ministry, Aleš Butala, participated in the preparation of European legal acts. In first half of 2008, that is during Slovenian EU Council Presidency, Aleš Butala was part of the team that was responsible for the Solvency II dossier. Moreover, Aleš Butala was part of the team that worked on Slovenian sovereign USD nominated bonds issuances and concluded contracts that were based on ISDA master agreement.
Between 2008 in 2017 Aleš Butala was a vice president of the Mediation Committee that was established on the basis of the Companies Act. Mediation committee reviews, if asked by court, whether a compensation offered to shareholders because of a squeeze out, is a fair one.
